Stephen S. Mosbacher was born into a Jewish family in Nuremberg in 1923. The family fled from the growing anti-Semitism to the USA in 1938. Mosbacher enlisted in 1941 to join the US Army to support the liberation of Europe from German occupation and lost his life in battle.

Mosbacher was one of many to be forced into exile by the Nazi terror, and who risked their lives to fight fascism—with the allied forces, with the International Brigades in Spain, with partisans or in resistance networks of occupied European countries. He sacrificed his life for the liberation of Europe, Germany and Nuremberg, his first home. He fell in a battle with the SS near Paderborn.
